Tony D. Lien
My volleyball journey began my Freshman year of high school where I chose to tryout for the volleyball team at Branham instead of baseball like my other friends. Making the JV team began the journey that lead me to start my coaching career during my high school years at my former middle school. I have now been the Director of the Pioneer High School Volleyball Program for the last 9 years. More recently I have become an Associate Head Coach for the USA Volleyball High Performance Pipeline. Volleyball is an amazing sport with lessons to learn both on and off the court for so many young people. It is my hope to teach and mentor those who wish to share the love of this sport with me, and gain the gifts I have received as a learner of the game. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Head Coach, Outside Hitter
My volleyball journey began in 7th grade at Castro Middle School, now known as Moreland Middle School. Due to the lack of a baseball program, I tried out for the volleyball team. I enjoyed the experiences I had with the sport, so volleyball it was. Once I got in to high school I played four years for Prospect, and I still play as an adult. I began my first two years of coaching at West Valley Volleyball Club in 2012 as the assistant coach of the 14-2s. Since then I have been coaching at Fusion Volleyball. Currently, I am the Head JV Coach at Santa Teresa High School. As a coach, I hope to create an environment that promotes individual growth for all players and great team chemistry. Please contact me with any questions.
Associate Head Coach, Libero
My volleyball journey began when I was 10 when my dad enrolled me in a public recreational volleyball camp in my hometown of San Francisco, CA. From then on I continued to play volleyball for my schools as well as San Francisco Juniors Volleyball Club. As an adult I still enjoy playing in all sorts of volleyball events such as grass, coed, quads, as well as competitive adult tournaments around the country. I began my coaching career in 2015 as the assistant coach for Fusion's 16-1s with Coach Tony. The following year, as I finished my Heath Science Degree from San Jose State University, we coached Fusion's 14-1s team together. Then, as Coach Tony puts it, I abandoned ship and moved back to San Francisco to pursue my work in field of Physical Therapy. Realizing how much I enjoyed coaching, I found myself as the assistant coach for the Xceleration's 16-2s. Currently I am the Head Physical Therapist Aide at Presidio Sport & Medicine. I am excited to come back to my roots here at Fusion Volleyball and coach with family.
Head Coach, Outside Hitter
My brother, Coach Keaton Avila, was the one that ultimately got me into volleyball. After watching his middle school team at Moreland Middle school compete, I was inspired to try out in 6th grade. I grew to love the game while I was at Moreland and continued to play all four years at Prospect High School as an Outside Hitter. I also played club volleyball for Bay to Bay 16-3s and Wavelength 17-1s.
My coaching career began with coaching Fusion 14-2s with my brother as his assistant coach. I continued to grow my skills in power last year with Stingray 15-2s team. Currently I am the JV Head Coach at Pioneer High School.
Outside of volleyball, I am applying to graduate school to pursue a Doctorate in Physical Therapy and pursuing my EMT License at San Jose City College. I also enjoy nerding out on comics and anime, writing short stories, and eating any and all kinds of food. ESPECIALLY SUSHI.
